Top Anime of 2015

Now that 2015 is coming to an end, let’s take a look back at some of the amazing Anime that made our time worthwhile.

Click the title if you want to watch the anime.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV)

69279l

Genres: Action, Fantasy, Magic, Shounen, Supernatural

To realize the mythical Holy Grail, which is said to grant any wish from its possessor, seven masters are given seven heroic spirits chosen by the Grail. Each master will enter into a contract with their assigned servants and battle the other masters and servants to the death until only one pair remains. This is the “Holy Grail War.”

The anime, a sequel to Fate/Zero, started in 2014 with it’s second season ending this year.

Though it didn’t quite reach the level of quality that Fate/Zero had, it was definitely worth a watch.

MyAnimeList rating: 8.48

Overlord

21687554572748l

Genres: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Game, Supernatural

The story begins with Yggdrasil, a popular online game which is quietly shut down one day; however, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as “the most powerful wizard.” The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) begining to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.

If you’ve watched Sword Art Online, this pretty much uses the same theme. A player trapped in a MMORPG( Damn! If only if was actually possible. Looks like you’re not the only one who thinks that way). Here’s what a user in Kissanime had to say about this anime:

The anime itself also has great animation and magnificent fight scenes and to top it all of a well done OP and ED that I did not skip once. Overall it’s a total waste not to watch this anime, in the mean time I’ll be reading the light novels and praying that this makes a second season!

Shokugeki no Souma

547055459587915

Genres: Ecchi, School, Shounen

Yukihira Souma’s dream is to become a full-time chef in his father’s restaurant and surpass his father’s culinary skill. But just as Yukihira graduates from middle school, his father, Yukihira Jouichirou, closes down the restaurant to cook in Europe. Although downtrodden, Souma’s fighting spirit is rekindled by a challenge from Jouichirou which is to survive in an elite culinary school where only 10% of the students graduate. Can Souma survive?

FOODGASM! Yes, it shows images of the sensory stimulation that people experience when they swallow some overly delicious food!

The art was amazing and the anime was humorous, to say the least. For those of you who wanted more, the second season has been confirmed for 2016 ^_^

Noragami Aragoto

45705254575627l

Genres: Action, Adventure, Shounen, Supernatural

In the second season of Noragami the main focus is on Bishamon, god of combat. She has many shinki due to her being unable to abandon spirits attacked by Ayakashi. She has a large group of shinki with her as leader, causing her trouble as she sometimes cannot tend to all of them properly, especially when one of them gets sick or is in pain. She has a strong hate for Yato, as a dark past binds the two of them. How will the horrifying events dated hundreds of years ago in combination with current evil happenings affect Yato and Yukine?

Continuing from where it left in the first season, this anime was a great improvement. The first arc of the season nailed everything. If you loved watching the first season, you’ll definitely want to watch the second.

Owarimonogatari

76479

Genres: Comedy, Mystery, Supernatural

During the month of October of his third year in high school, Koyomi Araragi is introduced to a transfer student named Ougi Oshino by his underclassman Kanbaru Suruga. Ougi tells Koyomi that she has something she wishes to consult with him. When she draws the map of Naoetsu High School, she finds something peculiar. This discovery reveals a tale that wasn’t meant to be told, and this makes Koyomi’s high school life totally different. This is the story that brings to light “what” makes Koyomi Araragi. This is the story that reveals the “beginning” of everything.

What is this that we see every year? Be it 2012 or 2013 or ’14 or ’15 or even 2016. The Monogatari seires is one of the most entertaining series out there. One of the focal points of this series is character development. If you haven’t watched them yet, this definitely have to be in your ‘anime to watch’ list.

This is what a user in MyAnimeList had to say about Owarimonogatari:

What’s so special about this series is how it handles exactly that. It doesn’t follow a strict route in storytelling, it just kinda does whatever the hell it wants. Apart from the occasional obnoxious panty shots I think the story is very unique and engaging for the most part. As for the characters – you’ve got our protagonist who while being a borderline lolicon also happens to be a vampire, a sadistic tsundere with a daddy complex, a cat girl, etc. Point is that if not on the most complex side of things (also arguable), the cast is one of the most entertaining I have ever seen. The story combined with these characters and breaking the 4th wall humor makes this show what it is. However while I do praise it, the fact still remains that the Monogatari series is an overrated one.

One Punch Man

57733554572533l

Genres: Action, Comedy, Parody, Sci-Fi, Seinen, Super Power, Supernatural

Well, there are no surprises here. It’s not often you see an anime living up to all it’s hype. OPM transcends every anime that has aired in 2015. You’ve got to hand it to MadHouse for their selfless effort. You know they’ve done a good job when the anime has made it to the No. 1 spot in IMDB.

100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats and 10 km running. Every single day for three years. A main character who is a ‘hero just for fun’ and manages to kill anyone with a single punch. Overall OPM delivered an action packed, humorous parody on every shounen you’ve ever seen .

If you’re wondering about the second season of this Anime,

According to a tweet from Yusuke Murata, who illustrated the manga and created the anime remake, “he will work hard to make it possible.” The tweet is in Japanese but was roughly translated by Anime Corner.

This doesn’t mean that the second season is confirmed. But it will take one man to make it possible and he’s working hard on it.

MyAnimeList rating: 9.08

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

Kuroko no Basket 3
